ABOUT REVELSTOKE BACKCOUNTRY GUIDES

Detail-oriented backcountry skiing trips

We’ve skied around the world and, quite simply, Revelstoke backcountry is the best. Be it the climate-resilient latitude, the ocean’s worth of local peaks, the immense variety of terrain, or the epic amounts of snow that fall, there is nowhere more diverse and dependable. That’s why we choose to live and play here, and that’s how we know the ins and outs.

Ski touring trips are not like other vacations—perfect moments are elusive in the mountains. That’s why you come to us. Sure, our trips capitalize on the best ski terrain in the best ski-touring zone on the planet, but it’s our creativity and adaptability that makes us different. We put together custom tours that flow with the conditions and terrain, prioritizing solitude and wildness.

Our small, guide-owned-and-operated company focuses exclusively on ski touring, because we find it more rewarding. Nothing makes us happier than watching you bag the best run of your life—all that much better because you earned it.

ABOUT YOU

Looking for something different for your annual backcountry trip?

You love being in the backcountry, but you don’t have the time or resources to put together a trip that’s sure to deliver the kind of memories you want to make.

You prioritize being in wild places, with good people, and great snow over counting vertical, or getting bragging rights for the gnarliest line.

You’re a strong advanced or expert skier who loves the feeling of working for it almost as much as you love riding great powder. You prefer to travel with a small group of friends over a large group of strangers.

Our resources and partners.

First and foremost: unmatched terrain knowledge. We also have a private backcountry hut and dedicated touring tenure, freshly made lunches, professional quality two-way radios for guests, and a dialed ground-support team.

Our Guides and Staff

+ Mike Bromberg

Mike is an internationally certified (IFMGA) mountain guide since 2010 with diverse global guiding experience. Mike created Revelstoke Backcountry Guides to give skiers an alternative big box heliskiing or large group lodge trips and to showcase what he believes to be the best powder ski touring in North America.

+ Sylvain Hebert

Sylvain has been a fixture in Canadian ski guiding for several decades and is among the most highly skilled guides in North America. In fact, he’s ACMG guide number #90. Skiing with Syl is always a smooth, low stress/high reward experience.

+ Larry Kelly

Larry was recruited to come to Revelstoke to be a member of RMR's pro ski patrol in the mountain's inagrual season. He quickly left the pistes behind to guide untouched powder full-time. One of the most personable and service oriented guides we've ever met, Larry's ability to be inclusive and welcoming while delivering incredible powder skiing is legendary.

+ Guest Guides

From time to time, we reach out to trusted collegues and industry veterans to help us deliver our programs and/or partner with to deliver experiences for their private groups utilizing our model. Any guide we contract is an ACMG "Full" Ski or Splitboard Guide or IFMGA Mountain Guide with multiple years of certified guiding expereince in Revelstoke.

what our guests say about us

Feedback

Since 2016, our select team of guides has delivered the best runs on the planet to hundreds of backcountry skiers and splitboarders from around the world. Since day one, it’s been important to us to survey all our guests for direct feedback. As professionals, we always want to hear how we did, and what we can do better.

Mike was a great guide for the trip. He had a nice balance of humor, intensity and skill. He didn’t chat the entire time but also wasn’t super quiet. He was able to gauge our skill levels and dial in the appropriate terrain. He seemed super knowledgeable of the area and was able to get us into some ridiculous lines that had great snow

Was truly an amazing tour through the mountains, you knew our skill set better then we did, and we could not have been more grateful because of it. Thank you again.

Larry was FANTASTIC. He always went above and beyond, checking in constantly, being super patient and supportive and encouraging, and seeing how he could support with our gear or questions, or just chatting and having a good time with us. I was very impressed and pleased and didn’t want my experience to end.

Our day heli-assisted touring day in the Selkirks was absolutely unbelievable! I had to pinch myself multiple times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming! Also Mike encouraged us to have our trip catered by Jodi and that was a very good call. No complaints a bucket list trip for sure!

Very high expectations were substantially exceeded after a February “drought”...! From top notch guides to delicious lunches to unbeatable skiing and scenery, a hugely memorable 40th birthday trip. Having a tough time getting back into the grind. Hope to see you again soon and thanks...
— AE, Portland OR, March 2019
The RBG experience is absolutely amazing. They are unparalleled in offering top notch service, amazing terrain and, almost always, amazing snow
— CM, Denver CO, Feb 2016-2019
Mike and Larry: both outstanding guides, making the guests feel safe, welcome, and comfortable. The skiing was well tailored to the guests skills, the terrain, and the snow conditions.
— JD, Kelowna, BC
I just spent 4 days touring and skiing non stop powder in a private wonderland with 7 friends and two of the best guides I’ve ever had. Professional, fun, safe, and caring with access to the best backcountry terrain in the world, RBG is a world class outfit.
— DW, Los Angeles CA, March 2019
Our guide, Mike, was confidence-inspiring, competent, and gave a laid-back vibe...though it was clear that his mind was considering all the elements. I really appreciated his thoughtful approach to risk-management and his assessment of the groups’ abilities.

ETHICs

Everyone is welcome here.

We recognize that there are barriers to enjoying the mountains, and that some of them are systemic. Race, age, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status all play a role in experiencing the backcountry. If you come on one of our trips, we promise an environment where everyone feels invited, included and comfortable being themselves. And if you don’t feel ready or don’t have the resources, reach out and chat with us, we can help lay a path.

Conscious of our choices

TEN TRACKS: That’s the extent of our impact when we’ve left the places we’ve explored.

SIX GALLONS OF JET FUEL: What you burn if you choose to fly by helicopter into our remote backcountry terrain. (Roughly the size of your ski pack).

TWO SANDWICHES, TWO COOKIES, AND ONE APPLE: Enough fuel to climb and ski 5,000 vertical feet of perfect powder a day.

ZERO : The number of down days, wasted time, and expectations we have not exceeded.

ENVIRONMENT

Low(er) impact backcountry immersion

Mountain experiences don’t have to be excessive to be memorable. By slowing down and ascending via our own human power, we see and feel more of what the backcountry shows us.

Our aim is to refine new ways to experience the mountains and inspire others to engage a more thoughtful approach to experiential travel. While there is no way to travel without impact, we’re working toward influencing others to be mindful of their choices.

This is shared land

We operate commercially under an adventure-tourism license from the province of British Columbia, and are grateful to ski and splitboard in the unceded traditional territories of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, Secwépemc, and Syilx First Nations.
